'THE DOUBLE SUNRISE' DOCUMENTARY

This album is easily the most personal I've ever made, so it felt right to go into more detail about the stories, people and places that inspired the music on 'The Double Sunrise'. And I felt the best way to do that was by making a short form documentary. Shot both in Melbourne and in Auckland, this 10 minute film tells the story of my grandfather, NZ music legend Bill Wolfgramm, includes some beautiful vintage footage of the TEAL Short Solent flying boat, and how both have very real connections to me. And it was a particular honour to include some of the conversation I had with fellow NZ music legend, Bill Sevesi, in what was his last interview before he passed away in April at the age of 92. Many thanks to guys at Monster Valley for putting it together, to Museum Of Transport & Technology in Auckland for allowing us to film there, and to Air New Zealand for passing on and letting us use the priceless archive footage. And thanks to AU Review for premiering it.

'THE DOUBLE SUNRISE' IS OUT NOW!

This has been a long time coming but the day is here! The Double Sunrise is out today and you can get your copy here

Massive thanks to Megan Washington, Melanie Pain, John Castle, Ross Irwin (for his amazing arrangements), The Melbourne Samoan Choir, Inertia Music, PPCA & Australia Council for the Arts for helping me bring this record to life.

NEW ZEALAND HERALD GIVES 'THE DOUBLE SUNRISE' 5/5!

Very happy with the great responses coming in already for 'The Double Sunrise'.

"A stunning album, let it carry you away to a South Sea paradise. 5/5" New Zealand Herald

“...truly voyeuristic; you can’t help but to feel swallowed whole by the encompassing warmth.” SpeakerTV

“Lanu is definitely an artist New Zealand should claim as it's own, not least because he was actually born here, but because his music is brilliant...The Double Sunrise makes for a great summer listen.”  Stuff.co.nz

“The Double Sunrise' is a love letter to the Pacific... This is a giddy slice of escapism with plenty of soul.” Tiger Tales Magazine (TigerAir)

"warmly nostalgic and expertly assembled" Rolling Stone

THE DOUBLE SUNRISE IS FEATURE ALBUM ON DOUBLE J

Very pleased that Double J have made 'Double Sunrise' their feature album this week. "It's no small endeavour to take such a specific, niche musical idea and follow it to its conclusion, but Lanu proves that there are great treasures to uncover if you're dedicated enough." Thanks for the kind words!

2ND SINGLE "NIGHTMARCHERS" OUT NOW

Thanks to Tone Deaf for the premiere! Once again featuring Megan Washington ‘Nightmarchers’ tells the tale of ghostly spirit warriors still roaming throughout Hawaii. “A band of apparitions would march through the night to the beat of primitive drums", says Lance. "Some say they are wandering restlessly to avenge their own deaths, or simply to find passage into the next world. There are two rules: NEVER interrupt them and NEVER make eye contact (you or one of your own may be cursed).”

You can get the single now when you pre-order 'The Double Sunrise' on iTunes.

NEW SINGLE "DRAGON SUN" RELEASED TODAY

So I locked myself away for a while to make a new Lanu album for you and now it’s that exciting, strange and scary time when it bolts over the fence and escapes the confines of the studio.

‘The Double Sunrise’ is my version of an Exotica record for 2015, made with some of my best and dearests like Megan Washington and John Castle, and also some amazing new musical friends I made along the way. And just like Jaws: The Revenge: ‘This time it’s personal'.

Here's the first taste of the album, "Dragon Sun".

The album is out Feb 5 and you can pre-order it on iTunes and get this track straight away smarturl.it/lanudoublesunrise
